Refrigerators made today use 30% less electricity than they did in the early 1990s. Households that switch to a more efficient unit can realize significant energy savings. In fact, the refrigerator often accounts for as much as 1/5 of a customer’s annual electric usage.
Under this program, households with limited financial resources may qualify for a new, energy-efficient refrigerator that carries the ENERGY STAR® label. Only working refrigerators that are more than 10 years old qualify for replacement. The program provides for delivery and installation of the new refrigerator, as well as removal and proper recycling of the old unit.
Customers are eligible for the Refrigerator Replacement Program if they have been approved for our local Energy Assistance Program. Our program administrator will be following up with eligible households as to how to participate in this program.
Our Refrigerator Replacement Program is funded with the portion of Public Benefits dollars specifically set aside for income-qualifying individuals and families.
